Jimmy Masters has been a first call jazz bassist in Hampton Roads for several decades now. He attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. For the past 11 years he has assistant music director to the Attucks Jazz Series, produced by the Virginia Arts Festival. He has served as curator and music director for the Miller Jazz Series at the Sandler Center, now in its 6th season. He has recorded 2 CDs with Grammy nominated trombonist John Fedchock, recorded 2 CDs with award winning baritone saxophonist Glenn Wilson, and in 2013 released his first CD as a leader, titled When Trees Speak. In 2021 he also recorded with singer songwriter Mark Rogers on his highly acclaimed recording Rhythm of the Road. His instrument of choice is his 160 years old German upright bass.
